Response #9: Biodiesel Website

This website(http://www.biodiesel.org/resources/Biodiesel_basics/), which is powered by the National Biodiesel Board, is primarily for anyone is interested in learning and thinking about switching to biodiesel fuel.  Their company was established in 1992 and their mission is to voice the positive effects of biodiesel.  Their vision for the future of biodiesel is to see it become an important asset  for our nation’s energy source by 2015.  The main points of this websites focuses on the knowledge about Biodiesel that anyone may be interested in.  It explains what biodiesel is, which states that it is an alternate source of fuel that burns clean and is safer for the environment.  Biodiesel is created through the transesterification process.  It separates the fat from vegetable oil and leaves behind methyl esters (biodiesel) and glycerin.  The vegetable oil you buy at the grocery store is not the same as biodiesel.  In order for it to be used legally as motor fuel, it must be ensured it performs properly, and it also must be approved and registered with the Environmental Protection Agency.

The use of biodiesel is healthier for the environment because is releases less emissions into the atmosphere than petroleum fuel.  The renewable resources that biodiesel uses, for example soy bean oil, helps our nation to be independent in oil production, instead of paying other countries to give us oil.  This will also help out our economy. Biodiesel is available everywhere in the nation and can be purchased from various producers, distributers, and limited gas stations.  This website gives you the insight on where to find biodiesel fuel and many more interesting facts about sustainability.
