Response #11: Localburger.com

Today eating fast food has become common because it’s convenient, and inexpensive. Although fast food is convenient, it is unhealthy, and harmful to the environment. However, Hillary Brown has taken steps to change the way we eat fast food. Brown, a chef, and entrepreneur, opened her version of a healthy fast food restaurant. Her restaurant, Local Burger, is not only a healthy alternative to the typical fast food option; it uses farmers that practice sustainable and humane practices.

To help advertise, local burger has its own website, http://www.localburger.com. Like most restaurant websites, a store locator, hours of operation, and a menu can be found from the home page. However, unlike most restaurants, Local burger’s menu items provide information on where the meat, and/or produce used to make the item is grown as part of its description. Additionally, most of the items on the menu are void of the most common ingredients causing allergies. Furthermore, the website affirms that all the meat used come from sustainable and humane farming practices; and the produce used also comes from local and organic farms.

Brown’s desire to change the way we eat fast food has caught the attention of many, and has been featured in many food magazines, and showcased on The Sundance Channel. Not only has her restaurant helped make eating fast food healthy, she has helped increase sustainability by supporting local and organic farming practices. To make eating healthy even more convenient, food can now be ordered online at her website http://www.localburger.com .
